Local businesses have opened their doors this week to embrace AccessAbility Day. Each day a new business has experienced having a person with disability in the workplace, while also providing people with disability insight into a range of industries.
BEST Employment has teamed up with Neville’s Produce, McDonalds, the local Art Gallery, Cav Insure, Tenterfield Sale Yards, Outright Computers, Maddy’s Gift Gallery and local Farmer Liz Arnold to set local job seekers on the right path.
"AccessAbility Day helps local job seekers living with disability to explore employment possibilities in their town, connecting employers and people, while increasing awareness, understanding and acceptance of a diverse workforce" said Penny Alliston-Hall, BEST Employment's CEO.
"There are 2.2 million Australians living with disability who are of working age, but are under-represented in our workforce. AccessAbility Days hope to address this statistic. We really encourage businesses to find each individual’s ability and work with us to build an inclusive community."
26 year old Jessica Friend completed her Day at the local Art Gallery and is pleased to be continuing a volunteer role every week.
‘It was a great opportunity to get out of the house and try something different.”
